A Haute Look at Grand Seiko’s Latest Masterpieces: The SLGC006 Tentagraph & SLGW007

Grand Seiko has just dropped two new releases, the SLGC006 and SLGW007. Both watches embody the brand’s Evolution 9 Style, a design philosophy that seamlessly blends Japanese aesthetic sensibilities with unparalleled craftsmanship. Drawing inspiration from the natural landscapes surrounding Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi in Iwate Prefecture, these timepieces capture the essence of Japan’s rugged mountains and serene forests. Set for release in October 2025, they highlight Grand Seiko’s commitment to precision, innovation, and beauty. The SLGC006, a limited-edition mechanical chronograph priced at $22,600, is restricted to just 300 pieces, while the SLGW007, a manual-winding dress watch at $10,000, offers timeless elegance for everyday wear.

The SLGC006

The SLGC006 mechanical chronograph imparts the spirit of Mt. Iwate, reflecting the morning sunrise in its captivating design. This watch takes the fusion of Grand Seiko’s spirit with Japanese aesthetics to new heights. The dial pattern is reminiscent of Mt. Iwate, the majestic peak visible from Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, where the brand’s mechanical watches are crafted. Its copper-pink color exudes a dignified presence, as if bathed in morning sunlight, with a striking radial pattern inspired by a bird’s-eye view of the mountain’s ridge line.

Mt. Iwate, formed around 700,000 years ago, is one of Japan’s most active volcanoes in a nation boasting over 100 such peaks. The rough surface, etched by lava flows along its north side, informs the dial’s textured design, evoking the volcano’s storied history.

Powered by the Caliber 9SC5, a high-beat chronograph movement vibrating at 10 beats per second (36,000 vibrations per hour), the SLGC006 offers continuous operation for up to about 72 hours (three days) when fully wound—even with the chronograph engaged. The Tentagraph name encapsulates its key features: Ten beats per second, three days of power reserve, automatic winding, and chronograph functionality.

Legibility is paramount in this model. The space between the hands, dial, and indexes has been minimized for quick time reading, despite the wealth of information displayed. The date window, positioned between four and five o’clock, allows all 12 indexes to align perfectly, ensuring optimal visibility for the sub-dials.

Crafted in high-intensity titanium with ceramic and 18k rose gold accents—including the crown, pushers, and a ring around the bezel—the case measures 43.2mm in diameter, 51.5mm lug-to-lug, and 15.4mm thick. It features a see-through screw-down case back, box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, Lumibrite on hands and indexes, and 10 bar (100m) water resistance. The watch weighs 162g and comes on a matching titanium and rose gold bracelet with a three-fold clasp. Additional features include a tachymeter function, 60 jewels, and magnetic resistance up to 4,800 A/m. A serial number and “LIMITED EDITION” engraving adorn the case back.

This limited-edition piece will be available exclusively at Grand Seiko Boutiques and Salons starting October 2025.

The SLGW007

In contrast, the SLGW007 is a refined, manual-winding mechanical timepiece that evokes the subtle beauty of a moonlit birch tree. Also rooted in the Evolution 9 Style, it elevates Grand Seiko’s blend of technical prowess and Japanese artistry. The textured, navy-colored dial mimics the bark of a white birch tree under moonlight, with a slight fade that adds depth and mystery. This inspiration draws from the Hiraniwa Plateau in Iwate Prefecture, home to an expansive 1,000-acre forest of white birch trees near the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi.

The slender stainless steel case, measuring just 9.95mm thick, 38.6mm in diameter, and 45.0mm lug-to-lug, gives the SLGW007 the elegant profile of a classic dress watch. Weighing only 74g, it features a refined, narrow bezel that complements the clean lines of the lugs and applied indexes. The see-through case back, secured with four screws, reveals the intricate movement, while the box-shaped sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective inner coating. Splash-resistant with magnetic resistance up to 4,800 A/m, it’s designed for sophisticated occasions rather than rugged adventures.

At its heart is the Caliber 9SA4, a manual-winding movement with a high vibration rate of 10 beats per second (36,000 vibrations per hour) for exceptional accuracy and stability. It boasts a generous power reserve of up to 80 hours, with a power reserve indicator on the rear. The mean daily rate is +5 to -3 seconds per day in static testing, translating to +8 to -1 seconds in normal usage. With 47 jewels, this caliber represents Grand Seiko’s pursuit of the ultimate manual-winding timepiece.

The accompanying cow leather strap harmonizes perfectly with the dial, featuring a soft texture with small bumps and a navy hue that reinforces the moonlit birch imagery. It secures with a three-fold clasp and push-button release.
