Becoming a 'gold standard' in the world of watches is something that only a few models will ever achieve. In a twist of irony have many of them accomplished this by being made not from this precious metal. However, that doesn't mean that even those don't look good in gold. Over the years have these four models proved their staying power and became the ones to which all the others are measured.

Diamonds on men's watches; some people love them, others can't stand them. But even those who are counting themselves among the last category might be tempted to at least, adjust their opinion with the following four watches. They are either quite subtle or go all in, but all bring something very special to the table that makes them in one way or another too tempting to turn down.

When one of the major introductions from Patek Philippe is crafted from stainless steel, it is almost always a sports model. But every rule needs to have an exception. In the past, Patek Philippe has veered a few times off the precious metals, towards the more common steel for their classic watches, but only on rare occasions. It can be no secret that Patek Philippe is a brand that gives a slight elevation of the pulse whenever we lay eyes on one. For such exclusive watch manufacture, their collection is surprisingly diverse and large. The same can be said of our list of favourites, although the debate is still going on if not a few other references also deserve to be included as well.....

When I started last year with 'Blue Dials of Baselworld' I did not expect it to become a reoccurring topic. Earlier this year at the SIHH, we already saw enough blue dials to warrant a similar article and this year at Baselworld....well, judge for yourself!

This years edition of Baselworld was also the scene where quite a few stunning watches for ladies where introduced. Only a couple of years ago quartz still ruled supreme, but today most of the leading watch brands have extensive collections of mechanical ladies watches. That doesn't make it any easier for us to select our favourites, but it does make it all the more fun!

In 1941 the world was in the midst of WWII, yet this was also the time that Patek Philippe introduced a landmark watch, the ref.1518. This was not only Patek Philippe's very first watch that united both a perpetual calendar with a chronograph, but also the very first time that such a watch was made in series.

The Patek Philippe 5004 embodies everything about the Philippe Stern presidency is the 5004. It's a modern day 2499 and one hell of a clever investment...
