Watch Of The Week: Breitling Navitimer 8 B01 Chronograph 43

Breitling is making rapid adjustments to its course under its new CEO Georges Kern. The wings came off the logo, and their focus is now on taking their legendary past into the future. One of the watches that they are trying to accomplish this with is the Navitimer 8 B01 Chronograph 43. An imposing watch, especially in red gold.

Haute Complication: Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Power Reserve 5 Days Sapphire

Pushing the envelope is one of Hublot's mantras and their sapphire watches are perhaps the best illustration as to what that can lead to. In a relatively short period of time, Hublot has not only mastered the art of creating sapphire cased watches, but they have also taken them to the next level.

Haute Complication: Greubel Forsey Quadruple Tourbillon Black

Those who think that it is the complications that make a Quadruple Tourbillon such an exquisite timepiece have never been up close and personal with this Greubel Forsey. While they are utterly impressive, it is the finish of each component in the watch that truly sets it apart from anything else. This is also one of the reasons why I enjoyed the Quadruple Tourbillon Black, which was introduced during Baselworld, so much.

Haute Time’s Favorite Baselworld Watches: Part II

After Part I of Haute Time's Favorite Baselworld Watches, there are still a few new watches that we would like to highlight, as they made strong entries to our wishlists, and perhaps those of yours as well.

Haute Complication: Graff GyroGraff Drive

Graff puts its passion for cars into a higher gear and uses it as inspiration for a very special of the GyroGraff. Named appropriately GyroGraff Drive the watches in this collection feature a micro painting on the dial, that will satisfy your need for speed.

Haute Time’s Favorite Baselworld Watches: Part I

Baselworld 2018 was a blast, with strong new additions to the collections across all brands. While this is great news for the industry, and watch collectors and connoisseurs, it does make it quite difficult for us to pick out our favourites, but here it goes!

Haute Time’s Five Favorite Independent Watches From Baselworld 2018

Baselworld 2018 brought a lot of new watches, from the large, well-known brands, but also many independent brands introduced extraordinary new models. These are five of Haute Time's favourites!

Haute Complication: Hublot Big Bang MP-11 3D Carbon

At this years Baselworld not only a new model was added to the “Manufacture Piece”-collection by Hublot, but also a whole new material which has never been used in watchmaking before. Sourced from the US military, it is a polymer matrix composite which is reinforced by a three-dimensional carbon fibre weave. The result is a very strong, very resistant, yet also very light material.

Watch of the Week: Breguet Marine Chronograph 5527

Last year during Baselworld, Breguet surprised us with the Marine Équation Marchante 5887, which combined a tourbillon with an equation of time complication. This year it became clear that this highly complicated watch was just at the forefront of a new generation of Marine watches. For Breguet an important collection, historically, as Abraham-Louis Breguet was appointed chronometer maker of the French Royal Navy in 1815, and commercially, as everybody loves a good sports watch!

And Some More Great New Watches From Baselworld

For a few days a year Basel, normally a modest provincial capital on the Swiss borders with Germany and France, is the capital of the world, the watch world that is. This year is particularly strong in terms of new offerings. The vast majority of the brands exhibiting at Baselworld introduced watches that are very pure in their DNA, while at the same time in tune with what the market currently desires, like these four watches:

Hot New Hublots at Baselworld

Baselworld has started, and one brand that was bound to make a buzz is Hublot. Not only did they declare their love for football, by introducing the Big Bang Referee 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ smart watch for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia, but also did they put together two amazing all-star teams coached by Diego Maradona and José Mourinho to compete in a friendly match during an exclusive event

Live From Basel: Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique 5367 Grand Feu Enamel

A Breguet fitted with a tourbillon is always holding a special position in the world of watches. This is not only thanks to the fact that it was Abraham-Louis Breguet, the brand's founder, who invented this complication, which he patented in 1801 but also because the brand never stopped innovating. Perhaps the best example of this is the Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique.

Pre-Baselworld 2018: Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Moon Black Enamel

Grand Feu enamel remains a unique material. While challenging to make, this doesn't stop certain watch brands to create dials from it. Reason for this is that rich, glossy look, that tells connoisseurs that they are holding something special. Last year Jaquet Droz introduced at Baselworld the Grande Seconde Moon in a red gold case and with an ivory Grand Feu enamel dial, and this year they are extending the collection with the Grande Seconde Moon Black Enamel.

Pre-Baselworld 2018: Blancpain Villeret Quantième Complet GMT

Brands exhibiting at Baselworld are gearing up for the fair and releasing previews of what is to come. Among them Blancpain, who already showed us images of the new Villeret Quantième Complet GMT.

What New Watches To Expect At Baselworld 2018?

This month Baselworld will open its doors again, and it will be different from previous years. While the fair will not only be a few days shorter, it will also be smaller, as some brands have either moved to the SIHH or forgo the Swiss fairs at all in favour of more targeted, local events. The independents will, however, solidify their position further, and become a more prominent, and integrated part of Baselworld.
