While Chopard has been one of the leading luxury brands for decades, writing history with their jewelry and watches, its manufacture is surprisingly young. Only a quarter of a century ago, they fully began with developing and producing their own movements. Since then, these activities have rapidly increased and made Chopard one of the most respected and leading Haute Horlogerie brands when it comes to complicated movements. To mark this occasion, the brand is launching two limited editions, underscoring its achievements in those 25 years.

In the 15 years after its founding has MB&F launched one revolution after another. They tackled classic complications in ways that nobody has done before, introduced us to new ones, but showed most of all that there are no boundaries to creativity. Now it is time for a revolution to evolve, as the brand launches a new chapter with the Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO.

In recent years has Grand Seiko put more of an emphasis on precious metal-cased watches. With them, the brand has made quite an impact, and it is now expanding it by also putting its gem-set watches more in the spotlight. The Spring Drive 8 Days Jewelry Watch from their Masterpiece collection is a great example of the unique style that Grand Seiko utilizes in creating these watches. In a 43mm platinum case, diamonds and blue sapphires unite in a magical way form with function.

2020 is an important year for Grand Seiko as it celebrates its 60th anniversary. A unique occasion with they commemorate not only with new watches but also with new movements. As the brand has always been future-minded, they take this year to not only further cement their position with the world of the Haute Horlogerie but also to strengthen their foundation for the future.

Over the years, Grand Seiko has proven that they can make superb sports watches, which have no problem competing with their Swiss counterparts. An admirable accomplishment that comes forward from their mentality to create something great, and then perfect it some more. This pretty much sums up the way that Grand Seiko has been making watches ever since the birth of the brand in 1960.

2019 is a special year for quite a few brands, as it marks for them important events in their history. For some, it was the launch of an iconic model or important movement, while for others it was an event at which one of their watches became legendary. That makes it that these four brands have something to celebrate:

When the Zenith El Primero hit the market, now fifty years ago, it immediately gained the status of being a benchmark. This is not only because it was the first automatic chronograph, but also because it combined this with an integrated column wheel and a high frequency of 36.000 vibrations per hour. This made it possible for the watch to measure time with an accuracy of 1/10th of a second.

The jump hour is a complication loved by many, yet only a few brands have one in their collection. One of the reasons for this is that it is difficult to make. The jump hour is a volatile complication in which power is build up in a spring during the hour to be released upon the hour. Not only does this require superb power management within the movement, but there is also to challenge to achieve perfect alignment of the hour disc after the jump has taken place.

It is for sure an overused word in the industry: icon. A lot of watches are identified as such, yet few fully deserve all the credits that come with it. One that most certainly does it the Regulator by Chronoswiss. Now celebrating its 30th anniversary, the regulator is a milestone in watchmaking, introducing a whole new way of checking the time on the wrist when it was introduced in 1988.

Just a few weeks ago, the Tonda Chronor Anniversaire won the chronograph category of the 2017 GPHG, securing a double win for Parmigiani as the Toric Hemisphères Rétrograde brought home the prize for best travel time watch. For us an excellent excuse to have a closer look at the watch with which Parmigiani celebrated their 20th anniversary.

Sometimes you wonder what went through the minds of the designers and watchmakers involved in the development of the Omega Speedmaster back in 1956. Did they know they where creating a legend?

By Martin Green Time flies when having fun! That certainly goes for Urwerk, who celebrates this year its 20th anniversary and does so with the UR-T8 which they launched at the SIHH. The brand has come a long way in those twenty years, creating watches like the UR-103, UR-1001 and the EMC Time-Hunter. A signature feature of many of them are of course the three cone shaped discs indicating both the hour as well as the minutes, brought together by a stroke of genius. Of course, this complication is also present in the UR-T8, because what would a 20th-anniversary piece be without it?

This is the year of the Carrera at TAG Heuer, as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of the brand’s iconic chronograph.
