Back in 2001 Richard Mille launched his self-named brand with a decisively masculine watch in both attitude and design. Inspired by Formula 1 racing cars and aerospace, he incorporated these then novel materials into his bold tonneau-shaped watches built with a focus on broadening the scope of technology used in horlogerie.

Richard Mille now expresses his feminine side with the RM07-01. While still possessing the DNA of a Richard Mille watch, the RM07-01 will definitely appeal to the ladies. There’s no denying the fact that women adore jewelry. And this specific model in rose gold called the Full Set comes dolled up with a diamond-encrusted bezel punctuated by rose gold hands on the dial set against a vivid red backdrop framed by diamonds. Raindrop-shaped indexes complete the elegant picture. In Richard Mille’s slimmed down iconic tonneau case size, the composition beautifully befits a woman’s wrist.

Okay, so we’ve established the RM07-01 is pretty and will look great on a woman’s wrist. But this is a Richard Mille piece, remember, so you know that under the hood will be the latest technology. Most women’s mechanical watches run on borrowed time, meaning the manufacturers use a caliber originally designed for a men’s watch. Richard Mille went a step further, taking a gallant bow to women by building a movement from the ground up just for the RM07-01.

Like all Richard Mille creations Caliber CRMA2 is a tough customer, employing electroplated grade 5 titanium for the baseplate and bridges, mounted on chassis rubbers fixed by 2 titanium screws. This automatic watch includes a variable-inertia balance and Richard Mille’s variable geometry rotor in 5N 18K red gold, which enables the adjustment of the rotor’s rotational speed based on the owner’s activity level. In addition, the ladies get the benefit of Richard Mille’s patented crown, which, unlike a traditional setup, is disengaged from the interior of the movement, so the knocks of everyday life won’t endanger the mechanics.

Because Richard Mille believes women deserve and appreciate a fine machine, the RM07-01 comes with a skeletonized movement so the high tech mechanics are on view. The balance is placed in 6 o’clock, acting as both a functional and kinetic design component. Of course, the finishing is top notch with the movement containing drawn, chamfered and polished surfaces protected by a mysterious and dramatic PVD treatment on the plate and bridges.

The RM07-01 wraps around the wrist with a black rubber strap with the black theme artistically continued on the red gold crown with a PVD covered winding grip. This watch is a lovely piece of technical expertise and artistic design and it’s made just for us. Richard Mille is a true ladies man.
