Panerai and Razer Continue Partnership in the Name of Sustainability

The alliance between Panerai and Razer continues with the introduction of the Luminor Quaranta Razer Special Edition.

The two brands initially joined forces at RazerCon 2021, Razer’s digital celebration of all things gaming and more. They recognized their mutual focus on measures to heal the environment and joined in support of a critical ocean preservation project to promote ocean literacy.

This partnership continues with the reveal of the Luminor Quaranta Razer Special Edition, a watch that merges high-end horology and the aesthetic of the most recognized name in esports and global gaming. Production of this latest embodiment of Panerai’s collaboration with Razer will be limited to 500 pieces and available exclusively through Panerai boutiques and Panerai.com.

The Luminor Quaranta Razer is presented in black and punctuated by electric green on the small seconds dial and the strap stitching. These colors are inspired by the gaming brand’s signature colors. The 40mm case is composed of eSteel coated with diamond like carbon (DLC).

The Luminor collection is a pillar of the Panerai family of adventure-ready watches. While the Luminor Quaranta Razer Special Edition is immediately identifiable as part of the iconic collection, it is distinguishable through subtle details. For example, the engraving of a triple-headed snake, Razer’s logo, is found on the caseback. Additionally, the Razer name in the brand’s signature font is on the crown-protection bridge, explicitly announcing its presence as a partner in the design of the watch.

A major component of this watch is recycled materials. The strap is made from recycled PET derived from post-consumer plastic bottles. The watch will be delivered in packaging composed of 72% recycled material and weighing 53% lighter than the previous version.

The new Luminor Quaranta Razer symbolizes the commitment to sustainability but Panerai and Razer’s efforts do not stop there. The brands have partnered with Conservation International, an environmental nonprofit organization, to support marine species research.

This research has led to the development of sustainable livelihood opportunities for coastal communities, supported the creation of new protected areas, and informed policy changes that protect these species and their ocean environment.

This initiative is an example of the “Panerai Ocean Conservation Initiative” mission developed in partnership with IOC-UNESCO in the framework of the ocean literacy program of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. The “Panerai Ocean Conservation Initiative” is a worldwide educational campaign which includes 100 universities in the world to enlighten students on how a luxury brand, like Panerai, can be a force for good for the planet thanks to its serious commitment towards sustainability and to educate thousands of students on the importance of the ocean.
