IWC Launches Two New Portugieser Models With Modern Panda Dials
For the iconic IWC Schaffhausen Portugieser collection, it was time for a refresh. This week, the leading Swiss luxury watch manufacturer unveiled a new, modern take on two of the most popular models within the Portugieser collection: the Portugieser Automatic (Ref. IW500715) and the Portugieser Chronograph (Ref. IW371620). The two new interpretations of the timepieces err on the elevated sports side, featuring the beloved “panda dial” in a contrasting deep blue and white color combination – making them the ideal summer additions.

The watches nod to the original inspiration behind the Portugieser marine deck observation watches, with subtle nautical design details are woven throughout. For example, the white dials boast a polished lacquer finish, while the deep blue sub dials feature an “azurage” finish, evoking a contemporary feel to the nautical heritage. Both timepieces also sport stainless steel cases, contrasting white and blue dials with the characteristic railway-track style chapter ring, blue Arabic numerals, and blued feuille hands. And the Portugieser Automatic is fitted with a blue alligator leather strap while the Portugieser Chronograph is complemented with the blue rubber strap (which rubber straps are having a major moment this summer).

The two watches differ on the inside; the Automatic is powered by the IWC-manufactured 52010 caliber with a seven-day power reserve, and the Chronograph features the classic IWC-manufactured 69355 caliber chronograph movement — yet, both intricate movements can seen through the sapphire glass case backs.
The Portugieser Automatic and Portugieser Chronograph are available at IWC boutiques, authorized retail partners, or online at the IWC website, here.
