A slew of watch brands landed a much needed sartorial dare to the 89th Oscars. Here are some of the most remarkable timepieces to adorn celebrities on Sunday.
As much a fashion extravaganza as it is the biggest awards ceremony, this year’s Oscars saw some top-brand timepieces hug the wrists of A-listers.
While Rolex acted as official sponsor of the 89th Academy Awards, having designed the Greenroom for entering and exiting the stage, a panoply of other labels landed a much-needed sartorial dare to actors’ strict attires.
Here are some of the remarkable chronographs we spotted peeking from under the sleeves.
Chopard
The timeless Chopard L.U.C 1937 watch matched Jeremy Renner’s fine sartorial taste. The actor, whose film Arrival featured in the best-picture selection, had chosen a Classic White model with a stainless steel case and a silver dial.
Ralph Lauren
Jovan Adepo, who stars in the best-picture nominated Fences, wore an 18-carat white gold Ralph Lauren Slim Classique 42mm, hooked to a black alligator strap.
Piaget
Piaget lived up to the preferences of several movie celebrities. Writer, producer and actor Glen Powell, who appeared in Hidden Figures, fancied a 38mm Piaget Altiplano Platinum. Terrence Howard upped the sparkle with a 38mm, 18-karat white gold Dancer Skeleton, set in diamonds. Outlander’s Sam Heughan also sported a Piaget Altiplano Skeleton to the Vanity Fair after party.
IWC
Sunday was a big night for Mahershala Ali, who snatched the Best Supporting Actor prize for his performance in best-picture winner Moonlight. Tracking this memorable time for Ali was an IWC Da Vinci Chronograph Edition Laureus.
Jaeger-LeCoultre
Accompanying La La Land’s director Damien Chazelle’s winning streak on the Oscars was a 40mm pink gold Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Ultra Thin Small Second.
Omega
Actors were not the only ones who picked up timepieces. Nicole Kidman stunned with an Omega diamond-studded museum timepiece. Ticking back to the mid-20th century, the piece was a secret watch, whose dial hid beneath a decorative cover that resembled a bracelet.
Montblanc
Some of the most prominent men on the 89th Oscars relied on Montblanc. Director Barry Jenkins, who took home the statuettes for Best Movie and Best Adapted Screenplay for Moonlight, donned a Montblanc Star Classique. Nominated for Best Actor for Fences, Denzel Washington coupled a Montblanc 4810 Date Automatic watch with Montblanc Meiserstuck cuff links. Lucas Hedges, Best Actor in Supporting Role nominee for Manchester by the Sea, A Man Called Ove’s director Hannes Holm, Ben Affleck and Josh Dallas also flaunted Montblanc pieces.
