2022 is already starting on a high note, as Greubel Forsey is releasing the first piece of their new collection for next year. While watches from this brand are always exceptional, the Balancier S2 is even a bit more. It is continuing the legacy of complex sports watches that the brand established with its predecessors, the GMT Sport and the Balancier S. What the brand did with this watch was to distill the best parts of the original Balancier and make them even purer.

Greubel Forsey themselves are referring to the Balancier S2 as the new flagship model. This says quite a bit about not only this particular watch, as Greubel Forsey already has a very high standard, but also about the future of the brand. Greubel Forsey worked first on increasing the legibility of the Balancier S2, by giving it a grey or black backdrop with a matt effect. This is hand applied so that the hands and twelve hour indices stand out even more.

Interesting is also to note that Greubel Forsey increased the size of the Balancier S2 compared to its predecessor. The watch now measures 46.5mm in diameter. This sounds incredibly large, but not only is the case curved, it is also crafted from titanium. This makes it pleasant to wear, even on more modest wrists. For the first time is also the titanium bridge that holds the gear train skeletonized. This gives the watch more character and a purer look. While the Balancier S2 will be delivered on a rubber strap with a textured finish, true connoisseurs will without a doubt go for the amazing titanium bracelet that the brand offers as an option.

Those who want a Balancier S2 are advised to act fast, in particular when they don’t want to wait. Greubel Forsey is making 88 pieces in charcoal grey, and just 64 pieces in light grey. The production is spread evenly over four years, but for those lucky enough to get on the production list, the Balancier S2 will most certainly be worth the wait.
