The SBGJ261 “Peacock”

This year, Grand Seiko reveals a new interpretation of the “Peacock” (SBGJ227) — which debuted five years ago — with a new vibrant blue dial: the SBGJ261. In true Grand Seiko fashion, the new model captures the beauty of the peacock through its radiant blue and purple hue on the dial while also achieving unparalleled high watchmaking craftsmanship with its contemporary case, highly polished surfaces, razor-edged hands for high legibility, and optimal comfort in the wear. Assembled in the legendary Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi is the Hi-Beat GMT caliber 9S86, which has a high accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds a day (when static) a power reserve of 55 hours. Limited to 500 pieces, this exclusive piece will retail for $6,800 and be available at Grand Seiko Boutiques and Grand Seiko authorized retailers in the U.S.

The SBGJ259

The dynamic green dial of the SBGJ259 is meant to represent the serenity and zen-like bamboo grove at the Nezu Museum and Garden in the Omotesando district in Japan — and indeed, it does with its delicate pattern that creates a depth to the dial complimented by the yellow GMT hand. Similar to the “Peacock,” the 40mm case is made with the most delicate craftsmanship and is a reinterpretation of the acclaimed 44GS design. Inside, one can discover the hi-beat 9S86 GMT movement, boasting an impressive 55-hour reserve, and the GMT function allows the wearer to track two different time zones. This exclusive will retail for $6,800 and will be available at Grand Seiko Boutiques and Grand Seiko authorized retailers in the U.S.

The Nanbu Tekki-Inspired SBGK017

Inspired by the Nanbu tekki ironware, a form of metalwork produced in the city of Morioka in Iwate prefecture, the SBGK017 dial features a bespoke texture within the depths of the dark gray color. As one of the new models of the Elegance collection, the SBGK017 radiates the brand’s Takumi spirit — a nod to Grand Seiko’s Nature of Time philosophy. The U.S. Special Edition, Nanbu tekki-inspired timepiece SBGK017 will retail for $8,900 and will be continuous in the Grand Seiko collection.

The SBGK015 Ryūsendō

The other new model of the Elegance Collection is the SBGK015 Ryūsendō. Another rich color, the SBGK015’s dial takes inspiration from the vivid blue and emerald green underground lakes and clear blue water of the Ryūsendō. Both new timepieces from the Elegance Collection are polished by a special Zaratsu method created to accentuate the elegance of the curved surfaces as the dials and sapphire crystals are curved, giving the watches a classic feel. Housed inside each 39mm case is the Caliber 9S63, which has a power reserve of 72 hours and delivers an accuracy rate of +5 to -3 seconds per day (when static), and offers a small seconds hand at the nine o’clock position and a power reserve indicator at three o’clock.

The SBGK015 Ryūsendō is a U.S. Limited Edition of just 250 pieces and will retail for $7,500, available in September 2022 at Grand Seiko Boutiques and selected retail partners in the United States.
