In recent years has Grand Seiko put more of an emphasis on precious metal-cased watches. With them, the brand has made quite an impact, and it is now expanding it by also putting its gem-set watches more in the spotlight. The Spring Drive 8 Days Jewelry Watch from their Masterpiece collection is a great example of the unique style that Grand Seiko utilizes in creating these watches. In a 43mm platinum case, diamonds and blue sapphires unite in a magical way form with function.

Grand Seiko finds a lot of inspiration in the natural beauty of Japan, as was also the case with this watch. The cold and clear winter mornings, as the sun rises and bathes the snow-covered Shinshu region in light, are represented in this timepiece. Not only by the baguette- and brilliant-cut diamonds and blue sapphires, which serve as the hour and minute indicators but also by the inner part of the dial. Grand Seiko gave it a unique diamond dust texture, in which they marked the constellation of Leo. This is a subtle reference to the lion that is in the logo of Grand Seiko.

The back of the watch shows the caliber 9R01 Spring Drive movement, with its bridge-design that shows the image of Mt.Fuji. This manual wind movement offers a power reserve of eight days, thanks to the use of three mainspring barrels. The Spring Drive technology gives it an unprecedented accuracy of about 10 seconds deviation per month. While Grand Seiko introduced this particular watch to take part in the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the brand, it is much more than just an anniversary model. It is a logical step in the way that Grand Seiko has been building up its collection and one that, without a doubt, will be followed by others in the near future.
