Glashütte Original In Touch With Time With Their 2020 Annual Editions

Over the years, they have become a thing, the annual editions of Glashütte Original. What sets these watches apart is not that they are entirely new models, but rather that they feature the most stunning dials. In the last few years, Glashütte Original has shown us beautiful dials in a ‘raindrops against a windshield’ kind-of-motif featuring bright colors such as orange and green. This year their approach is quite different and remarkably appropriate for the times we are living in today.

GO_Sixties_01_0No bright colors dominate the two annual editions for 2020, but instead, the dials are donned in a cool glacier blue. They are made in Glashütte Original’s dial manufacture, located in Pforzheim, Germany. To achieve the dégradé effect, the dials are first given a sunray pattern before being sprayed with a dark blue lacquer. Then the dial is finished with the glacier blue lacquer that gives these watches their unique appearance. The beauty of this dial is that it makes the watch look understated, yet at the same time gives it an undeniable appeal. It also goes perfectly with the light brown nubuck calfskin.

Glashütte Original is launching its annual edition in two different models, both from their successful Sixties-collection, with its characteristic Arabic numerals. The chronograph version measures 42mm in diameter and is powered by caliber 39-34, an automatic movement that is developed and made in the brand’s manufacture in Glashütte, Germany. The time-only version is slightly smaller, with a diameter of 39 mm.

Just like the chronograph is it fitted with a slightly domed sapphire crystal. The back also has a sapphire glass installed in it, so that you cannot only admire the movement in the chronograph, but also in the time-only. Here we find caliber 39-52, with its distinct finish in Glashütte-style and prominent logo with the brands’ logo in it. Like the chronograph has also the time-only a power reserve of 40 hours and offers a second stop. As is customary with the annual editions of Glashütte Original, are they not limited in production, but in time, with the Glacier Blue versions being only available for purchase in 2020.
