With reference 5740G the Nautilus-collection was for the very first time in its existence joined by a perpetual calendar. It unites the sportive look of the famous Gerald Genta design with one of Patek Philippe's prime complications, and to say that the result is beyond stunning is quite an understatement.

When I started last year with 'Blue Dials of Baselworld' I did not expect it to become a reoccurring topic. Earlier this year at the SIHH, we already saw enough blue dials to warrant a similar article and this year at Baselworld....well, judge for yourself!

This years edition of Baselworld was also the scene where quite a few stunning watches for ladies where introduced. Only a couple of years ago quartz still ruled supreme, but today most of the leading watch brands have extensive collections of mechanical ladies watches. That doesn't make it any easier for us to select our favourites, but it does make it all the more fun!

After Part I of Haute Time's Favorite Baselworld Watches, there are still a few new watches that we would like to highlight, as they made strong entries to our wishlists, and perhaps those of yours as well.

This month Baselworld will open its doors again, and it will be different from previous years. While the fair will not only be a few days shorter, it will also be smaller, as some brands have either moved to the SIHH or forgo the Swiss fairs at all in favour of more targeted, local events. The independents will, however, solidify their position further, and become a more prominent, and integrated part of Baselworld.

One of the conclusions of the report is that large, well-funded companies that already have strong brand recognition are doing much better than smaller brands. That advantage is reinforced among luxury holding companies, which again benefit from having big pockets

2017 was a good year when it comes to watches. As we already discovered a few of Haute Time's favorite watches of this year in Part I, there were simply too many to put all in one article. That's, why in part II we showcase a few other favorites that have been released this year!

It doesn't happen every day that Patek Philippe introduces a new Perpetual Calendar, but in 2016 it added reference 5327 to its collection. It was set to replace reference 5140 (of which the platinum cased version remains in production) with whom it shares its movement.

There are a lot of very tempting things about this exquisite Patek Philippe, but first and foremost that it is such a very understated watch! With its distinct tonneau case and subtle Roman numerals, it shows that it is a fine watch, yet disguises how technically refined it is!

This Saturday evening, Christie's in Geneva was the stage for ONLY WATCH 2017, a charity auction in which the proceeds are being used to help find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Watch brands donate unique watches to the auction, giving collectors and connoisseurs the opportunity to own a truly unique watch. While all watches did well, some did a bit better than others!

Paul Newman isn't the only American icon who has his timepiece come up for auction, as on December 7th Christie's will offer Joe DiMaggio's Patek Philippe reference 130 and Amelia Earhart's Tiffany & Co travel watch.

While the demand, or appreciation, for vintage watches of the leading brands seems to be still on the rise, the same can be said of certain watches that are of a far more recent make.
