This years edition of Baselworld was also the scene where quite a few stunning watches for ladies where introduced. Only a couple of years ago quartz still ruled supreme, but today most of the leading watch brands have extensive collections of mechanical ladies watches. That doesn't make it any easier for us to select our favourites, but it does make it all the more fun!

Baselworld 2018 was a blast, with strong new additions to the collections across all brands. While this is great news for the industry, and watch collectors and connoisseurs, it does make it quite difficult for us to pick out our favourites, but here it goes!

By the time you read this Baselworld is coming to an end. One of the main things to take from the fair is that the watch industry is recovering. We have seen a lot of great watches, across all the brands, and many of them are offered at price points that make sense in today's market. While we go more in-depth on the novelties in the upcoming weeks, here is a short preview of some of the watches we saw at Haute Time's last day at Baselworld!

Grand Feu enamel remains a unique material. While challenging to make, this doesn't stop certain watch brands to create dials from it. Reason for this is that rich, glossy look, that tells connoisseurs that they are holding something special. Last year Jaquet Droz introduced at Baselworld the Grande Seconde Moon in a red gold case and with an ivory Grand Feu enamel dial, and this year they are extending the collection with the Grande Seconde Moon Black Enamel.

Pierre Jaquet-Droz had an unusual talent; he could make the most complicated, real-life looking automatons. These dolls performed extraordinary feats, such as drawing a face down to the last detail or write a letter with an ink pen, perfectly legible. Today that legacy still lives on in the company that bears its name, but now in wristwatches, and the latest is the Loving Butterfly Automaton.

Florals are back with a vengeance, in bold, bewitching forms. From feminine romanticism to artistic abstract prints, one thing is for certain, floral is here to stay. In-keeping with its season-less attributes, these three floral infused timepieces will ensure you remain in bloom.

How do you redefine a collection, keep it relevant, and yet safeguard its identity? Jaquet Droz may well have the answer with the new Grande Seconde additions in black and white ceramic.

Many ladies watches, even more so than men's watches, are on the threshold of being watch or art. They combine their timekeeping function with intricate designs, gemstone settings, enamel painting, and in the case of the Lady 8 Flower: an automaton.

In the fast paced environment of Baselworld, schedules are tight and transit times sometimes non-existence. You go from appointment to appointment, handling the greatest and latest watches. One of the biggest challenges during Baselworld is getting great photo's. Lighting is a constant problem, and time is always a restraint.

Two circles within one large circle: many of Jaquet Droz's watches are based on this design principle, which has always resulted in stylish watches, which stood out, but always in a refined way. With the new Grande Seconde Moon, the brand takes this concept to the next level. Time for a closer look!
