Convertibility is a big trend in jewelry – pendants that become brooches, long necklaces that come apart to be worn as a shorter necklace and a bracelet. Parmigiani Fleuier translates this clever concept to the men’s wristwatch. It can be worn as either a pocket watch or a wristwatch or used as a table clock when placed in the winder box that comes with it. There is an inner case made of carbon, and a polished steel outer case that is hinged on the inside. On the outside it is like any other beautifully finished case, with little evidence that it can be removed. A small button on the upper lug easily releases the outer case and it simply clicks back into place. Transformers hold a particular fascination, imagined in sci-fi movies as machines that miraculously transform themselves, and sometimes become menacing. This watch, however, is more decorative object than machine, and definitely not dangerous. There are two versions: a chronograph with date, and retrograde annual calendar. ![]()
