At Haute Time, we’ve recently been exploring the artistry, technical mastery, and remarkable journey that have elevated A. Lange & Söhne into one of modern horology’s most admired and sought-after names. Today, the Saxon manufacture unveiled two exquisite new interpretations of the Saxonia Thin, crafted in 950 platinum and 750 Honeygold®. Both feature deep black onyx dials with rhodiumed gold hands, in the classic lance shape. Each version will be produced in a strictly limited run of 200 pieces.

The Saxonia carries particular significance in Lange’s history. When Walter Lange and Günter Blümlein revived Lange’s family brand in 1994, it was one of the four foundational models presented to the world. The Saxonia Thin, however, would not make its debut until 2011, first in a 40mm case before being downsized to 37mm in 2016. Now, in 2025, the Saxonia Thin makes a confident return to its original 40mm format—a size that sits beautifully on the wrist, particularly given this restrained time-only model’s extraordinary slimness at just 6.2mm.

Beneath the minimalist dial beats the caliber L093.1, a movement only 2.9mm in height yet capable of delivering a robust 72-hour power reserve. Like every Lange caliber, it undergoes exacting in-house tests and is lavished with traditional finishing: untreated German silver plates and bridges, polished bevels, and of course, the hand-engraved balance cock that has become a favorite flourish of collectors.

The Saxonia Thin has never aspired to be complicated—and that is precisely its appeal. Its restraint allows the watchmaking details to shine: the glossy alligator strap with a hand-finished case-matching buckle, the flawless dial framed by precious metal, and the almost ascetic simplicity of a two-hand design executed at the highest level. It encapsulates Lange’s perfectionist ethos and storied heritage in a form that is both discreet and deeply wearable.

The uncomplicated Saxonia Thin remains one of the most approachable entries into the world of Lange. Given that the manufacture produces only about 5,000 watches annually, this limited edition presents not only a chance to wear a lightweight piece (just over 2 ounces) of Lange craftsmanship but also a rare opportunity to become part of the enduring Lange story.
