With Watches & Wonders in Geneva on the horizon and on the heels of LVMH Watch Week in Miami, Zenith debuts another novelty. With its release being rather close to Geneva, I can’t help but wonder if this is some sort of tease as to what is to come — yet, time will only tell. So, for now, let’s focus on what is at hand: the latest in the Defy collection, the Defy Skyline Tourbillon.

A rather sleek addition, the Defy Skyline Tourbillon’s aesthetic is futuristic, encased within a sharply faceted 41mm geometric silhouette. The piece’s architectural form perfectly frames the focal point of the watch, the tourbillon, which sits like a cosmic whirl at the dial’s lower hemisphere. This mechanism, visible through an aperture, is accentuated by a mirror-polished bridge and shaped into an open four-pointed star, echoing the Defy’s iconic design language. Completing a full rotation every 60 seconds, the tourbillon’s perpetual motion is a visual spectacle, further underscored by the timepiece’s 100-meter water resistance.
Zenith has meticulously tailored the Defy Skyline’s signature metallic dial to complement the tourbillon feature. Whether set against the steel version’s blue backdrop or the black ceramic’s darker hue, the dial’s engraved starry motif seems to emanate from the tourbillon itself, enhancing the illusion of depth and motion. Illuminated by luminescent markers and hands, with color-coordinated indices, the dial is a study in contrast and legibility.
At the heart beats the El Primero 3630, a newly minted automatic high-frequency manufacture caliber boasting a 60-hour power reserve. The movement’s intricate côtes de Genève stripes, radiating from the tourbillon, mirror the dial’s stellar design, offering a harmonious visual continuity. The star-shaped rotor not only complements this aesthetic but also offers an unobstructed view of the movement’s modern architecture.
In keeping with the versatility and contemporary spirit of the Defy collection, the Skyline Tourbillon is presented with a choice of stainless steel or black ceramic bracelets. Each timepiece also comes with an additional blue or black rubber strap, easily interchangeable thanks to a tool-free quick strap-change mechanism.
