Hands On The Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari All Black Watch

It doesn’t look like most watches, or most Hublot watches for that matter. But in many ways, that’s what makes the Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari such a hot timepiece. Engineered by the minds of Hublot and Ferrari back in 2013, the MP-05 LaFerrari is an homage, not to the history of either brand, but to bold creation, an ideal the two engineering giants have shared since their inception.

This year, Hublot is introducing a new, limited edition MP-05 LaFerrari All Black to its Masterpiece collection. The Masterpiece MP-05 LaFerrari, made from black PVD titanium, is most recognizable for its lines, designed to evoke the outline of the LaFerrari sports car, as well as its open case-back.

The new timepiece reintroduces some of the fundamental elements that made the original MP-05 LaFerrari such a maverick in the watch industry, including its aerodynamic design, record-breaking 50-day power reserve, and engine-like alignment. But this time the connection to the Prancing Horse is a little more subdued.

While the power reserve and hour and minutes once again sit on either side of the 11 barrels aligned at the center of the watch, these no longer feature the red aluminium bars representing the colors of the famous Prancing Horse. Instead, they have been black-coated to seamlessly integrate into an ever more aerodynamic design.

Although seemingly small, that detail represents another massive challenge for Hublot, who has to make 637 components for each new MP-05 LaFerrari, a model that holds the record for the most watchmaking components created to date by Hublot. The regal MP-05 LaFerrari truly sits at the top of the Hublot line, and has the headgear to prove it. A winding crown made from polished black PVD Titanium, sits at the top of the watch, while a suspended tourbillon cage indicating the seconds features at the front vertical face.

The MP-05 LaFerrari is completed by a black rubber strap with a special deployant buckle in black PVD titanium. The Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari All Black is limited to 50 pieces worldwide, and is price at € 288,000 Euros, or just shy of $ 325,000 USD.
