It has been well documented that dark blue hues and navy shades are a popular choice within luxury watches. But what about on the more vibrant side of the blue spectrum? For something a little different, here are some fresh turquoise timepieces just in time for the colorful summer season.
Hublot Big Bang Paraíba
When diamonds are not enough for your gem-set watch, you can turn to Paraíba tourmalines, which are some of the earth’s rarest stones. Initially discovered in 1989 in the Brazilian state of Paraíba, a single Paraíba tourmaline stone is mined for every 10,000 diamonds.
In honor of this stunning stone, Hublot released four new turquoise-colored Big Bang watches earlier this year embellished generously with Paraíba tourmalines. There are two Big Bang Unico Paraíba watches to choose from—one in white gold and one in red gold (aka King gold)—each featuring 48 baguette-cut Paraíba tourmalines on the bezel and 388 brilliant-cut Paraíba tourmalines on the case. The watches measure 45 mm in diameter, run on Hublot’s in-house UNICO HUB1242 movement, and include a flyback chronograph complication.
For a pared-down—but no less precious—version there are the Big Bang One Click Paraíba models. Also available in white gold or King gold, the 39 mm cases of the Big Bang One Click models are set with 48 baguette-cut Paraíba tourmalines on the bezel and 129 brilliant-cut stones on the case. What’s more, the turquoise sunray dial is also set with another 11 Paraíba tourmalines.
Rolex Day-Date 36
Not just turquoise in color but featuring actual turquoise stone, this version of Day-Date 36 was one of the highlights from the new Rolex President collection released at Baselworld 2019. Fashioned from 18k yellow gold, the new Day-Date includes the familiar 36 mm Oyster case and three-link President bracelet but it is now equipped with a new-generation movement with improved power reserve and precision.
The turquoise stone dial includes the naturally occurring dark veins that add a touch of character, while the Roman numeral indexes are paved with diamonds. Of course, on the dial is also the pair of calendar windows after which the Day-Date is named. Topping off this new Rolex President watch is a diamond-set bezel.
Chopard L’Heure du Diamant
For gem-set cocktail watches, we turn to the experts at Chopard. The Chopard L’Heure du Diamant collection has long been home to timepieces that blend high-jewelry savoir-faire and master watchmaking.
From its delicate case to its hand-engraved link bracelet, this particular Chopard L’Heure du Diamant is craft from 18k white gold. The bezel flaunts a ring of brilliant diamonds, which contrasts beautifully with the vibrant turquoise dial.
