On August 16, a small beach city on California’s Monterey Peninsula was populated with 6,000 people from around the world and some of the worlds rarest and most beautiful collectible motorcars in history. The popular automotive lifestyle event, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, welcomes car enthusiasts every year, and this year, there were more than 250 motorcars on display— all with a focus on sports and racing.

This year’s event was headlined by three special classes. The first of these, “100 Years of Bentley Motors,” paid tribute to legendary vehicles from throughout Bentley’s history including the North American debut of the EXP 100 GT concept car and the Flying Spur sedan. The second special class, “The 25th Anniversary of the McLaren F1,” also celebrated a historic milestone. In this case, a quarter-century of the legendary McLaren supercar was celebrated with a selection of standout models including a one-of-10 McLaren F1 GTR Longtail. Additionally, the “A Tribute to the Electric Car Movement” special class showcased unique electric cars throughout history including a unique 1965 Volkswagen Beetle Zelectric Sedan electric car prototype.
