Take The Plunge With These Deep Dive Watches

There are plenty of top-tier timepiece brands that have at least one diving watch in their collection. However, there are some watchmakers that also make deep dive watches that can withstand extreme pressures. Granted, dive watches are able to go deeper than humans can ever go and deep-diving watches have depth ratings that can only be described as absurd. But, over-engineering is one of the beauties of modern mechanical watches—it’s not a matter of necessity but rather, possibility. With that in mind, here are three deep dive watches that are proudly depth-defying.

Omega Seamaster PloProf 1200M

Taking its name from the French “plongeurs professionels”, meaning professional divers, the Seamaster PloProf is Omega’s burliest diver—both in shape and ability. Born in the 1970s, revived in the late 2000s, and revamped in the mid-2010s with a new-gen movement, the Omega Seamaster PloProf 1200M sports a distinctly shaped case measuring a mammoth 55 x 48mm. The winding crown is on the left-hand side of the case while a pusher on the top right serves to unlock the bi-directional bezel. As its name suggests, the PloProf 1200M is rated to 1,200 meters. This particular version brings together a titanium case and bracelet with a blue dial and bezel, and benefits from 18k Sedna Gold accents throughout.

Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea

Not only is the Deepsea Rolex’s deepest diver, but it is also the brand’s newest, first released in 2008. While the Deepsea is officially under the Sea-Dweller banner, it has carved out its own space thanks to its unique features. Measuring 44mm in diameter, the Rolex Deepsea is water-resistant to a depth of 3,900 meters—that just shy of 2.5 miles and 100 times beyond the depth any person could survive. At the heart of the stainless steel case is Rolex’s Ring Lock System, which combines a nitrogen-alloyed steel central ring, a titanium caseback, and a 5mm thick domed sapphire crystal. Along with the standard black dial option, there’s also the Rolex Deepsea D-Blue, fitted with a blue-to-black gradient dial in honor of James Cameron’s historic expedition to Challenger Deep in 2012.

Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf

Why limit a watch to just aviation when it can be a diving watch too? Part pilot watch and part diver, the new Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf belongs to the freshly re-launched Avenger collection announced last year. The watch features a 45mm steel case, complete with a unidirectional rotating bezel and titanium caseback.
