The Swiss not only know how to make watches, they also know how to sail. Alinghi has been most successful at it, winning the America's Cup, one of the world's most demanding sailing competitions, not once but twice. These are not their only achievements as they have on their mantle eight D35 Trophies, won the Bol d'Or seven times, and were victorious in four Extreme Sailing Series championships. Since 2019 Omega is their timing partner, which they now celebrate with a watch. This is not a Seamaster as one would expect, but surprisingly a Speedmaster.

Covid-19 is still having a profound impact on the day to day life of many of us. Its impact is felt around the world, also in Switzerland, where many manufactures have carefully increased their operations again and among them Omega. We talk with them to find out how they are coping with this challenging situation, but also look further and discuss the importance of partnerships and what makes the brand so strong.

This year's event also means the introduction of the new America's Cup Class foiling catamarans, which will reach speeds over 90 km/h, making this the Formula 1 of the seas. Only the world's best sailors participate, and for this, they need a rugged watch to withstand this highly demanding and competitive environment.

So, for this closer look at three top watches from SIHH, we laid some ground rules: one independent brand; one sport watch; one classic men’s watch. For Ulysse Nardin, it was the first time that they exhibited at the SIHH, but they sure made an impact. Various novelties were introduced and among them a stunning new Regatta Timer. While available as part of the regular collection featuring a white or blue dial, it was the limited edition that Ulysse Nardin makes for Artemis that caught especially our attention. Ulysse Nardin used the experience and input of two yachtsmen of the Swedish team, Loïck Peyron, and Iain Percy, to create this unique watch.

Few competitions are as demanding as the America's Cup. While only the best sailors in the world even dare to participate, even they are pushed to the limits. You can imagine the strain that this puts on the watches that they are wearing. Staying true to its nautical legacy Ulysse Nardin teamed up once again with Artemis Racing for the upcoming edition of the America's Cup.
