In the 1980s, TAG Heuer introduced a new divers watch. This was by itself not so surprising as the brand has been doing that for quite some time. However, this timepiece was different because the entire dial was coated with luminous material to ensure superb legibility underwater. While this cool feature received a warm welcome from professional and amateur divers alike, even people who didn’t dive at all were taken by it. The watch quickly reached the status of an icon, and today TAG Heuer is introducing a watch to continue that legacy.

The Aquaracer Professional 300 Night Diver looks indeed like a modern incarnation of its predecessor. With its characteristic horizontal grooved texture, the dial seems plain white in daylight. This is quite in contrast with the rest of the watch, as TAG Heuer decided to give everything that is usually bare stainless steel a black Diamond-Like-Carbon (DLC) coating. As a result, the Aquaracer Professional 300 Night Diver gets almost a military look. This treatment also makes a lot of its details more understated, and with that, they become a personal pleasure. While in essence a tool watch, TAG Heuer added a lot of refinement on various levels level, from the black lacquered hour markers shaped like the bezel to the black and white chapter ring that makes for a perfect transition to the bezel and case.

It has a robust appearance with a diameter of 43mm, although it wears slightly smaller due to the DLC-coating. The hands are also filled with Super-LumiNova so that they stand out even more underwater during deep or night dives. The sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating on both sides and is flat to ensure increased legibility both under and above water. The Caliber 5 automatic movement that ticks inside the case stay dry up to 300 meters, running at 4Hz and offering a power reserve of 42-hours. TAG Heuer also paid a lot of attention to wearing comfort, as the black rubber strap is fitted with a special folding clasp featuring an easy-to-use fine adjustment system. However, the best news is that the Aquaracer Professional 300 Night Diver is not a limited edition but will join TAG Heuer’s regular collection.
