Roger Dubuis’ Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph Returns in Pink Gold
While many brands have embraced restraint—downsizing cases and tempering embellishments in favor of today’s “less is more” aesthetic—Roger Dubuis defiantly embraces the opposite. More tourbillons, more balances, more precious materials, and more brazen, skeletonized designs: for this maison, more is always more. Some collectors may chide such ostentation, but the devoted few who can afford these exclusive timepieces merely shrug, confident that the rest simply don’t get it.
In celebration of Monterey Car Week, Roger Dubuis unveiled the new Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph, which returns in a 45mm pink gold case that enthrones one of its most innovative movements.
Roger Dubuis is a brand that never fails to captivate, especially today, as it strives even harder to channel the bold, uncompromising spirit of its late founder and his legacy of “hyper horology.”
This intrepid approach has led the maison into eye-catching collaborations, including a recent trilogy with celebrated tattoo artist Dr Woo. These limited-edition creations fused the brand’s signature sharp geometry with Dr Woo’s otherworldly motifs, resulting in truly engrossing objets d’art.

In its latest endeavor, Roger Dubuis draws on its supercar DNA. The maison cemented its place in motorsport lore through its ongoing partnership with Lamborghini, an eight-year-strong collaboration that produced unforgettable timepieces like the Monobalancier Huracán and the Excalibur Aventador S.
The latest gilded creation is powered by the RD780 movement, which also drives the preceding “Verde Mantis” and “Revuelto” versions of the Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph. This highly complex caliber features a Second Braking System (SBS), ensuring that the column wheel chronograph operates with impeccable precision and without flicker.

A standout feature of the RD780 is the 120° Rotating Minute Counter (RMC), an enthralling chronograph seconds display first seen in the 2023 Monovortex Split Seconds Chronograph, which was the brand’s flagship showpiece at Watches and Wonders that year. In simple terms, it pairs a tripartite satellite hand with a “conveyor belt” of numbers to indicate the seconds—a mechanism whose patent is still pending, adding to its intrigue.

The movement’s balance wheel is tilted at 12 degrees, delivering the inertia of a tourbillon while adding to the dial’s visual depth. The RD780 also incorporates diamond-coated silicon components, optimizing anti-magnetic resistance and low-friction performance, alongside a supercar-inspired oscillating weight that evokes the hubcap of a Lamborghini.
Every millimeter of this watch reflects meticulous hand-finishing and attention to detail, including the textured rubber strap with a Quick Release system, which ensures both comfort and security on the wearer’s wrist. This watch will be limited to Monsieur Roger Dubuis’ lucky number of 88 pieces.
