Richard Mille Drops the RM 33-03 Automatic—Everything You Need to Know
Richard Mille continues to redefine modern horology with the unveiling of the RM 33-03 Automatic, a timepiece that masterfully combines technical excellence with modern design. As the successor to the RM 33-02, this watch introduces increased complexity while preserving the sleek ergonomics that the brand is known for. Its circular case harmoniously integrates sporty aesthetics inspired by the brand’s iconic tonneau shape.

At the core of the RM 33-03 Automatic lies the new skeletonised RMXP3 calibre, an engineering marvel measuring just 3.28 mm in thickness. The movement features an off-center micro rotor crafted from solid platinum, which winds bidirectionally on ceramic ball bearings. This rotor ensures maximum energy efficiency while contributing to the watch’s ultra-slim profile and overall precision.
The calibre is mounted on a grade 5 titanium baseplate that undergoes a Titalyt® treatment, an electro-plasma oxidation process that improves hardness and resistance. Black PVD-coated titanium bridges add both rigidity and visual depth to the movement. This meticulous combination of materials guarantees flawless gear train operation and accurate timekeeping under any conditions.

One of the standout features of this model is its semi-instantaneous date display, which is visible at 5 o’clock via a black PVD-treated titanium date disc. At 6 o’clock, a small seconds display—a rare detail in Richard Mille’s portfolio—adds both functionality and a dynamic visual element to the dial.
The three-dimensional architecture of the RMXP3 calibre is enhanced by 18K 5N red gold numerals mounted on titanium rails. These elements appear to float between the flange and the movement, creating an interplay of light and shadow that highlights the skeletonised design. According to Cécile Guenat, Richard Mille’s Creation and Development Director, this approach was chosen to accentuate the depth and complexity of the calibre.

The RM 33-03 Automatic embraces cutting-edge materials and design to achieve both strength and elegance. Available in two striking variations—one in full grade 5 titanium and another in Carbon TPT® with a 5N red gold caseband—this timepiece exemplifies Richard Mille’s forward-thinking philosophy. Both versions share a compact yet bold profile with a 41.7 mm diameter and a mere 9.7 mm thickness, ensuring a comfortable fit on any wrist.
Attention to detail extends to the strap design, which mirrors the case’s unique geometry. The strap features indentations at 6 and 12 o’clock, creating dynamic lines that visually extend the energy of the case. This fusion of form and function underscores the watch’s contemporary style while maintaining Richard Mille’s signature comfort and durability.

In keeping with the brand’s ethos, the RM 33-03 is not just a luxury accessory but a showcase of engineering brilliance. The lightweight titanium and Carbon TPT® materials are both visually striking and highly durable, offering scratch resistance and long-term performance. This combination of modern aesthetics with state-of-the-art technology sets the RM 33-03 apart in the world of high-end watchmaking.
The RM 33-03 Automatic is the perfect embodiment of Richard Mille’s dedication to innovation, craftsmanship, and performance. From its platinum micro rotor and skeletonised construction to its refined use of premium materials, every element has been carefully designed to create a timepiece that transcends trends. It is both a work of art and a technical masterpiece, making it a compelling choice for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
