Panerai has something to celebrate this year, as it is 70 years ago that the Luminor was first created. While initially developed for military divers, it has grown to become one of the most iconic and loved sports watches. Among its fans is Panerai-ambassador and World Champion free diving Guillaume Néry. With the new Luminor Marina 44mm Guillaume Néry Edition does the French diver continue his close collaboration with Panerai, which in the recent past also resulted in two stunning Submersible Chronographs.

Compared to them is the new Luminor Marina less complicated, yet equally enticing. The watch is crafted from titanium, which is shaped using DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering). This technology can be compared to a 3D printing process. A sandblasting finish gives the watch a somewhat industrial look, in which also the bezel, crown, and signature bridge lever play an essential role. They feature a black rubberized coating, which goes very well with the black sandwich dial. It also gives this Luminor Marina in a subtle way, a distinctly different look from its siblings.

Inside the titanium case ticks Caliber P.9010. This manufacture movement is fitted with two mainspring barrels and gives the Panerai a power reserve of 3 days. A unique feature is that the hour hand can be adjusted backward and forward in one-hour increments. When the hand passes midnight, the date changes as well. This makes the Luminor Marina also the perfect travel watch. As can be expected from a diver of this caliber is the watch water-resistant to 300 meters, and it is fitted with a unique strap that is not afraid of getting wet. Made from recycled PET material is the strap not only very supple and comfortable to wear but also environmentally friendly. The Luminor Marina 44mm Guillaume Néry Edition is limited to a, not very surprising, 70 pieces and only available at the Panerai boutiques. What is surprising is that to mark the anniversary, Panerai is providing it with a warranty of no less than 70 years.
