Chopard tasted victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans earlier this summer, a race for which it unveiled a limited edition Superfast Chrono Porsche 919. The official timing partner of Porsche motorsport is hoping its triumphant watch can renew with victory, and has partnered with one of its drivers to create a unique model for Only Watch 2015. Mark Webber, the man who brought them silver in Le Mans, is teaming up with Chopard on this very special occasion to benefit Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research, by signing a one-of-a-kind Superfast Chrono Porsche 919.
Porsche’s racing heritage is once again deeply embedded into the design of the new timepiece, although it also introduces an innovative material to the brand’s collection. For the first time, Chopard are unveiling a model made in titanium with the lugs and crown coated with black DLC for protection, giving it the rugged edge of a classic racing watch. Check out that vintage Porsche 911 steering wheel inside the crown!
Set against a stunning silver-toned dial, which echoes the metallic grey of the German manufacturer, red accents on the inner bezel ring, chronograph and second hands give the design a sleek finish. The color, a staple of racing watches, seems to be a common thread in the designs presented by participating brands of this year’s Only Watch 2015.
Inside, the watch is powered by calibre Chopard 03.05-M, an in-house automatic chronograph with flyback function. This powerful engine, tried an trusted in previous models, is COSC-certified and will give the watch 60 hours of horsepower. Turning the watch over reveals the signature of Mark Webber, engraved into the solid caseback to ensure the exclusivity of the timepiece. The Unique Chopard Superfast Chrono Porsche 919 Mark Webber will be auctioned by Phillips Watches on 7 November 2015 in Geneva, with all funds benefiting research of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
