MB&F Offers A Revolution In Evolution With The New Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO

In the 15 years after its founding has MB&F launched one revolution after another. They tackled classic complications in ways that nobody has done before, and introduced us to new ones, but showed most of all that there are no boundaries to creativity. Now it is time for a revolution to evolve, as the brand launches a new chapter with the Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO.

This watch is just like the original, which was launched in 2015, 44mm in diameter, but now in a case made from zirconium. MB&F is no stranger to this material, as it used it previously in the HM3 Frog and HM5. It offers significant advantages as it is lighter than steel, yet more robust than titanium. By subtly evolving the case’s shape, the Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO gets quite a different character from its predecessor. One of the most evident factors in this is that it lacks a bezel, with the domed sapphire crystal mounted directly upon the case. While this looks like a simple change, MB&F had to utilize sophisticated technology to bond the sapphire crystal with the zirconium case thermally. As a result, the Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO has a sleeker profile. This is not the only difference, as MB&F also revised the pushers on the side, used to correct the perpetual calendar. This, combined with a screw-down crown, helps the watch achieve a water resistance of 80 meters. A special ‘FlexRing’ between the case and the movement offers superb shock resistance. This turns the  Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO in a bonafide sports watch, which MB&F underscores by fitting it with a rubber strap.

While this new edition of the Legacy Machine Perpetual offers tempting changes to the concept, many things also stay, fortunately, the same.  It is still equipped with the fully integrated perpetual calendar movement developed by Stephen McDonnell. Unlike many other perpetual calendars, can this one be corrected by hand at any time without the risk of damaging it, even when the date is in the middle of changing over. The subdials for the time and calendar functions are ‘crowned’ by a 14mm balance wheel, which quickly became a hallmark of this watch. MB&F is offering the Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO in three different versions, each with a different color dial plate. Next to black and blue, they also offer orange, a previously impossible color to create in a PVD/CVD coating. MB&F is only making 15 pieces of each version, a direct reference to their anniversary, available through their selected retailers, such as Watches of Switzerland.
