The Lexus Sport Yacht, which wowed the automotive and yachting worlds when its concept was announced in 2017, is about to become a reality in a big way.

While accepting an award from the “Boat of the Year” committee at the Japan International Boat Show in Yokohama, parent company Toyota announced the brand’s plans to release a 65-foot sport fly-bridge cruiser, expanding on the 42-foot open sport cruiser on a much larger scale.

The concept was announced during a media event in Miami in January 2017 by Toyota Motor Corp. President Akio Toyoda. The hull, inner structure and superstructure of the bespoke 42-foot open sport cruiser were made of hand-laid carbon-fiber fabric, vacuum-infused with two-part polyurethane resin. The Lexus Sport Yacht concept was powered by two marinized versions of the Lexus 2UR-GSE 5.0 L performance V8 engines as used in the high-performance Lexus RC F coupe, GS F sedan and new LC 500 grand tourer. The Lexus Sport Yacht concept carries up to 8 guests on board in high-speed luxury with a high-tech multi-media entertainment system and beautiful hand-made woods and leather.

The new yacht will be bigger, badder and more beautiful. It builds on the partnership with Marquis-Larson, and will have luxury staterooms below deck and entertaining space for up to 15 guests. Connected services using the company’s new Mobility Services Platform (MSPF) will provide security, smartphone integration, remote diagnostics and maintenance and other services.

The luxury boat will be available later in 2019 in the U.S. and in Japan in the spring of 2020.

Specifications, pricing and other details of the yacht will be announced at a later date.
