Last week luxury watchmakers Girard-Perregaux celebrated the launch of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures at the Academy Museum Inaugural Celebration. At the event Girard-Perregaux, a founding supporter and the exclusive timekeeper of the Academy Museum, unveiled a large high tech reproduction of the recently launched ad campaign ‘Mechanics of Dreams’, featuring an iconic image of Alfred Hitchcock from the Academy’s Margaret Herrick Library.

The event took place at the future home of the Museum – the legendary Wilshire May Company building in the heart of Los Angeles. Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, Annette Bening and Tom Hanks unveiled the Museum’s concept design and gave guests a preview of iconic artifacts that will be featured in the Museum, such as Dorothy’s red shoes from The Wizard of Oz and the piano featured in Casablanca. At the end of the evening Michele Sofisti, the CEO of Sowind (which owns Girard-Perregaux and JEANRICHARD), presented a specially engraved Academy Museum of Motion Picture series of Girard-Perregaux timepieces to Museum leadership to celebrate the Academy Museum/Girard-Perregaux partnership. The   series includes a Cat’s Eye Vintage 1945 and a Girard-Perregaux 1966 timepiece.

“We are thrilled to be at this important milestone of the Academy Museum,” said Sofisti. “This is a project that will transform the movie industry and bring it a step closer to the hearts of the public. At Girard-Perregaux we are honored to be part of it.”
