A tourbillon chronograph has somewhat of a dynamic dualism. On one side it is a watch dedicated to precision, with the tourbillon even trying to eliminate the effects of the gravity of the earth on the timekeeping mechanism. On the other side, these watches also want to keep track of elapsed time. Combining them in a single watch is not as easy as it sounds because the moment you start the chronograph, all bets are off! All of a sudden, there is a complication that requires a significant amount of energy for an extended period of time. That, while the regular timekeeping organs benefit from having their power supply as constant as possible. However, this “power struggle” is also what makes these watches so great and quite rare. Let’s take a look at four of them:

Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph Vasco da Gama Diamonds Wrist Watch
Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph
Powered by the capabilities of Minerva, an esteemed manufacture which was integrated with Montblanc a few years back, the brand has an opportunity to showcase its knowledge and craftsmanship. With the Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph, this lies in a single pusher chronograph, which powers two unusual chronograph counters, which flank the tourbillon. An exquisite piece, especially when you get this white gold version with Aventurine dial and diamond setting.

Rotonde de Cartier Tourbillon Chronograph
Rotonde de Cartier Tourbillon Chronograph
Even since Cartier built its own manufacture, it has become quite a power in the world of complicated movements. When it comes to chronographs equipped with a tourbillon, La Maison fitted it in the Rotonde de Cartier case.  Unique is also that its manual wind movement features a power reserve of an astonishing eight days!

Zenith Montre d'Aéronef Type 20 Tourbillon
Zenith Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 Tourbillon
Say chronographs and you say Zenith. Of course, the brand has also applied its expertise on this complication in a watch with a tourbillon. What makes a Zenith tourbillon extra enticing is that it still runs at the unbelievable speed of 36.000 bpm, faster than most other tourbillons out there. And when all of that is wrapped in the case of the Montre d’Aéronef Type 20, you get a watch unlike any other!

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon Chronograph

Also, Audemars Piguet flexes its horological muscles with a chronograph tourbillon.  Fitted in the brand’s signature Royal Oak case, they created a very technical looking watch, yet with an old-school Haute Horlogerie finish.
