Exquisite Watches That Say It With Flowers

Flowers have been a source of inspiration for jewelry since the beginning of time. Centuries ago, skilled goldsmiths already worked gemstones and gold into creations that resembled their natural counterparts. In watches, this is less common, because it is far more challenging to integrate the beauty of a flower within an object that is limited in its dimensions and also has another function to full fill. Of course, this didn’t stop a fair amount of brands from pursuing this avenue and say it with flowers.

Jacob & Co Fleur

Jacob & Co Astronomia Fleurs de Jardin
Jacob & Co didn’t go for just a single flower but used the unique proportions of their Astronomia case to create a garden of them. Accompanied by a flying tourbillon in a butterfly shape are the flowers crafted from the most precious gemstones. Because they are mounted on the upper part of the movement that is always in motion, they catch light from all angles. This makes it a spectacular watch to see, but even more to wear it. The time is indicated on a subdial, which, thanks to a differential gear system, always stays in the horizontal position. This is another unique feature that has become synonymous with the Astronomia collection.

Jaquet Droz Lady 8 Flower

Known for their automatons did Jaquet Droz also apply their knowledge in this field on a flower. With the Lady 8 Flower, the flower opens up when the mechanism is activated, and the diamond briolette inside starts to rotate. The flower is located in an attached case above the dial, covered by a dome of sapphire crystal and against a backdrop of white mother-of-pearl. The dial itself features a pave setting of brilliant-cut diamonds, while the case is set with blue sapphires. Both the watch, as well as its unique complication, are powered by a mechanical movement, which is visible through the back of the watch.

Van Cleef & Arpels flower watch

Van Cleef & Arpels Marguerite secret watch
Van Cleef & Arpels used the single white petals and bright yellow center of the Marguerite as inspiration for a classic secret watch. The watch indeed looks like a flower for on the wrist and comes to life thanks to its three-dimensional design. Van Cleef & Arpels uses brilliant-cut diamonds for the petals, while the center features stunning vivid yellow sapphires. To tell the time the center has to be opened under which, you will find a diamond-set dial where two gold hands indicate the hour and minutes.

Christophe Claret Margot

Master watchmaker Christophe Claret lets you even play with the flower on your watch, as you can mechanically pull its petals while asking the question ‘Does he love me?’ The Margot was the first complicated ladies watch that he made, and also features a crystalline gong that chimes each time when the pusher is pressed. As the petals disappear under the dial in a window at four o’clock one of the answers to the question appears in French saying either Un peu (a little), beaucoup (a lot), passionnément (passionately), à la folie (madly), or pas du tout (not at all).
