Today we’re taking a close up look at the Grande Seconde Tourbillon Aventurine by Jaquet Droz. Originally unveiled by the manufacture at Baselworld 2014, this limited edition timepiece features a dial and oscillating weight cut from a disc of aventurine.

Housed in a 39mm white gold case, the dial of the Grande Seconde Tourbillon Aventurine echoes a star-strewn night sky. The aventurine dial is complemented by sparkling diamonds on the bezel and lugs, as well as around the contours of the figure-eight-style subdials. In total, it features some 382 brilliant-cut diamonds. The bottom mother-of-pearl subdial features hours and minutes with blued steel hands, while the top subdial showcases the tourbillon movement, as well as small seconds.

The gleaming aventurine is also featured on the caliber 25JD self-winding movement, with a custom-made piece of aventurine set into the 18K white gold oscillating weight. This unique detail is showcased by the sapphire crystal caseback, as are two gold stars representing Jaquet Droz’s signature.

Only 28 pieces of the Grande Seconde Tourbillon Aventurine, which just landed in stores, were produced.
