Close Up: Glashütte Original PanoMaticInverse

Today we’re taking a close up look at the PanoMaticInverse by Glashütte Original. Unveiled at Baselworld 2014, this new model lives up to the ‘Inverse’ part of its name by revealing part of its automatic movement on the dial rather than the caseback. Meanwhile, the dial face is itself styled to look like the view one would normally get via the sapphire crystal caseback.

According to the manufacture, this change-up was made possible by the inverse positioning of the components of the Calibre 91-02 at the heart of this timepiece. This automatic-winding movement, which boasts a 42-hour power reserve, puts the duplex swan-neck fine adjustment on the dial side. Manufactured in-house by Glashütte Original, this movement also features a skeletonized rotor with a 21K gold oscillating weight, polished and blued screws, bevelled edges, polished steel parts and a Glashütte three-quarter with stripe finish.

In addition to the duplex swan-neck fine adjustment regulator system visible between 3 and 6 o’clock on the dial, the PanoMaticInverse also features two off-center subdials — one for hours and minutes, and another smaller one for the seconds — and a date display (one of Glashütte Original’s signature features) at 2 o’clock. The rhodium dial plate is decorated with Glashütte ribbing and blued screws and rubies, as well as blued steel hands.

This 42mm timepiece is available in two versions: one in stainless steel, and another in red gold. Both versions are completed by an alligator leather strap with a fold-over clasp.
