Even in the world’s most exquisite cars, the interior clock is often almost an after-thought. Not at Rolls-Royce, as their new coach build Boat Tail comes with two customized Bovet timepieces that set a new benchmark of how an exclusive car clock should look. Bovet invested a total of 3,000 hours in developing and manufacturing these two watches, as well as the dashboard holder they fit in. They are a pure expression of style and a perfect match with the car itself.

As the fabulous new Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is owned by a couple, one is made in particular for the man, and the other for the woman. While both watches share the same movement, they each have a character of their own. Fitted in a white gold case, does the man’s version have on one side a stunning aventurine dial with the stars in the sky arranged as it was on his place and date of birth. This side also shows the profile of the car in astonishing detail and in exactly the same color. The other side of the dial shows the Caleidolegno veneer found on the aft deck of the boat tail, while the famous “Spirit of Ecstasy” decorates the lower part of the watch.

The version for the lady’s owner of the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail features a case with a beautiful engraving that is further decorated by blue lacquer. While the front is similar to the man’s version, the back isn’t. Here we find, instead of the aventurine, a mother-of-pearl dial with a miniature painting of flowers, a hallmark of Bovet, deeply rooted in its history.

Thanks to an innovative system, both watches can be worn on the wrist, used as a pocket watch, a desk clock, or set in the dashboard of the Rolls-Royce. Developing this was quite a feat, as there were quite a few requirements to meet, as both the watches and the holder had to meet automotive-industry standards for vibration and crash safety. Bovet even created an entirely new case for these watches. They feature not only a tourbillon for optimum precision, but also have a power reserve of 5-days. This makes them perfect to accompany one of the most exquisite cars every build, as well as grace the wrists of the couple that owns it.
