Just a couple of days ago, we got word that Major League Base baller Giancarlo Stanton would not be able to finish out the season with the Miami Marlins due to injury. It is a devastating loss for the Marlins, as MLB’s hardest hitter has to become a sitter instead of a player. The right fielder is also a TAG Heuer brand ambassador and epitomizes the brand’s “Don’t Crack Under Pressure” campaign. Cool, calm and seemingly easy going, the 26-year-old Stanton packs so much power in his swing that he not only breaks bats, but also breaks records. Here he shares his thoughts on time, commitment, baseball and injuries.

Q: How does time play a role in your life?

GS: “You always want to be on time. It is important to be respectful of other people’s time and to be there when you are expected to be there. You can be as powerful as you want, have as perfect a swing as you want, but if you are not on time, nothing matters. You always have to be where you are supposed to be and if you say you are going to do something then do it, because people notice these things. It is about respecting people and time. On the field and during the games, time plays a different role. It just comes down to speed and batting times.”

Q: What was the longest moment of your life?

GS: “When I got hit in the face two years ago. I was lying there with that headache and that terrible pain and I remember needing some type of help to relieve the pain. Everyone was rushing around me and trying to do something, but I was in such pain that I just wanted to pass out, which you are not supposed to do, but I wanted relief. I remember it all exactly. That was the longest moment of my life.”

Q: There are people out there who say you are accident-prone. Are you?

GS: “I feel like I have been. I have had some very fluke things happen in recent years, but yes I guess so. I don’t think there is anything I can do to change that. Maybe I could train a little differently or do things differently, but the pas couple of accidents couldn’t have been avoided by training – they were just that, accidents.”

Q: What are the synergies between you and TAG Heuer?

GS: “We represent a lot of the same things. I love the ‘Don’t crack under pressure’ campaign because being up at bat there is always pressure, and I love the speed aspect with TAG Heuer and racing and with the speed of my swings, as well. I also respect their outlook on things and how they always push to get better. I am the same.”

Q: Have you ever cracked under pressure?

GS: “I have. Everyone has, and that’s what builds you up. You learn from it, and that helps in the big moments. There is not a person alive who hasn’t cracked under pressure. You have to go through it so that hopefully you learn from it. “
