This week the troubling trend of high-end watch thefts continued when robbers in Virginia made off with approximately $609,000 in Rolex timepieces. Early on Tuesday morning, thieves targeted a Tourneau store located on the ground level of the upscale Pentagon City Mall in Arlington, VA.

Four people entered the store wearing hooded jackets and masks, heading directly to the Rolex section. The thieves used a hammer to break the glass of the display case and were able to grab 23 Rolex watches, worth a reported $609,000. According to the Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit, the subjects were in the store for less than 30 seconds, leading to speculation that this was a well-planned incident. The subjects fled the scene with the help of a fifth individual, who was waiting in a getaway vehicle outside the mall.

The mall is located just minutes away from the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, commonly known as the Pentagon.
