SIHH Day 3: Passion Is What Drives The Industry

From every aspect, the mechanical watch is an obsolete instrument, yet we continue to have a love affair with it. It is, therefore, a passion that drives the industry and that is also clear when you look at the creations of many of the exhibitors at de SIHH. Because of that passion, they went above and beyond to create movements, complications, finishes and decorations that were not possible before, or continue a tradition that is often almost forgotten.

Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number: The Young Guns of Horology

In the luxury watch space, a brand’s long history is often touted as an advantage as it signals experience, longevity, and continued relevance. Some of the most recognized fine timepiece houses are well over a century old and some are even more than two. Yet, as old as watchmaking is, there’s always room for new companies with fresh ideas.

The Art Of The Watch Bracelet

Many of us do it daily: they put their watch around their wrist, close its bracelet and go about with their day. While watches are often considered objects of art, not many put a lot of thought into the bracelets that come with them. The stress and demands that are put on bracelets are significant; not only does their design need to fit in with that of the watch, but they also need to be comfortable to wear, strong and easy to open, but only when you want to.

The Salon Internacional Alta Relojería, or SIAR, has developed tremendously over the years. Five Favorite Photo’s Of SIHH 2017

The SIHH gives you the opportunity to see and handle some of the most amazing new watches. All those masterpieces available at a single venue is exhilarating yet also hard work, especially for Haute Time's photographer Alex Teuscher. Light conditions are always challenging at a fair, and there is a constant pressure to finish up in time make it to the next appointment. Simultaneously it is also important to respect the subject and photograph it in an environment that it suits. In the digital age, you can, fortunately, see very quickly if you are on point, and very little things are as gratifying as ending a long yet exciting day, seeing that the fruit of your work is actually looking pretty awesome!

Urwerk Celebrates 20th Anniversary With UR-T8

By Martin Green Time flies when having fun! That certainly goes for Urwerk, who celebrates this year its 20th anniversary and does so with the UR-T8 which they launched at the SIHH. The brand has come a long way in those twenty years, creating watches like the UR-103, UR-1001 and the EMC Time-Hunter. A signature feature of many of them are of course the three cone shaped discs indicating both the hour as well as the minutes, brought together by a stroke of genius. Of course, this complication is also present in the UR-T8, because what would a 20th-anniversary piece be without it?
