Throwback Thursday: Omega Speedmaster Ref.2915 ‘Broad Arrow’

The Speedmaster is, without a doubt, one of the most important and recognizable watches in the history of Omega. However, when this particular Ref.2915 was made in 1958, its true claim to fame was still in the future. That didn't make the Speedmaster any less innovative when it was launched. It was the very first chronograph that had the tachymeter scale engraved on the bezel rather than printed on the dial. This increased the legibility of all the functions and was one of the reasons many professionals embraced it. This would later even include NASA, where one of the successors of this model would make history as the first watch worn on the moon.

Four Chronographs That Earned their Place In History

One of the most popular complications is the chronograph. This can be explained because the complication adds extra dynamic elements to the watch. Measuring the passing of time requires an extra seconds hand, subdials to show the minutes and hours, and pushers to operate it all. Aviation, car racing, and the exploration of space are just three areas in which (mechanical) chronographs made their mark, adding to their appeal. While there are a great many to choose from, the following four have earned their place in history:

Throwback Thursday: Omega Speedmaster Alaska I Prototype

Omega's involvement with the space program has always been a passionate one. While they had little involvement in becoming part of it, other than making an excellent chronograph that was the only one that passed all the NASA testing, they became a valuable partner to the space agency soon after. Omega wasn't sitting by the sideline, just supplying its watches to astronauts, but further developed its timepieces particularly to meet new demands as the space program evolved. The "Alaska project" is the perfect example of this.

Four Watches For International Women’s Day, And None With Diamonds

Today we celebrate International Women's Day, in which we not only honor women's achievements but also raise awareness for women's equality. The theme set for this year is 'Choose To Challenge,' as a challenged world is an alert world, and what you challenge will change. This change is also direly needed, as the world is currently facing challenges for which we can only find constructive, long-term solutions if everybody's full potential is utilized, and that can only be reached are equals. Here are four watches that might, each in their own way, facilitate this change.

Omega Renews Their Gold Standard With New Speedmaster Professional

Omega's Speedmaster counts as one of the watches that set the gold standard when it comes to chronographs. With the new generation of this iconic watch, you can take this quite literally, as Omega not only launched it in stainless steel but also in two colors gold. This is quite unique, as the Speedmaster Professional hasn't been available in gold since 2012.

A New Speedmaster Celebrates Partnership Between Omega And Alinghi

The Swiss not only know how to make watches, they also know how to sail. Alinghi has been most successful at it, winning the America's Cup, one of the world's most demanding sailing competitions, not once but twice. These are not their only achievements as they have on their mantle eight D35 Trophies, won the Bol d'Or seven times, and were victorious in four Extreme Sailing Series championships. Since 2019 Omega is their timing partner, which they now celebrate with a watch. This is not a Seamaster as one would expect, but surprisingly a Speedmaster.

Four Must-Have Chronographs

The chronograph is among the most popular complications. Many of them have reached the status of being an icon, often for very different reasons. As there are so many chronographs to choose from, here is a short-list of four that any serious watch collector should consider adding to its collection.

Talking With Omega About Weathering The Storm, James Bond, And More

Covid-19 is still having a profound impact on the day to day life of many of us. Its impact is felt around the world, also in Switzerland, where many manufactures have carefully increased their operations again and among them Omega. We talk with them to find out how they are coping with this challenging situation, but also look further and discuss the importance of partnerships and what makes the brand so strong.

Omega Goes For Gold With New Speedmasters

Watches don't get any more professional than the Omega Speedmaster, the first watch worn on the moon. Gold might not be an obvious choice to craft such a watch from, but the result is surprisingly elegant when you do. This is most certainly the case with the two new models that Omega recently introduced. With a diameter of 38mm are they slightly smaller than their 'professional' sibling, but still have plenty of wrist presence. They also combine elegance with practical use, as is evident from, for example, the bezel. It is split into two parts, one made from aluminum with a tachymeter scale on it, and the other set with 90 brilliant-cut diamonds.

Fly Me To The Moon: Haute Time’s Favorite Omega Speedmasters

The history of the Omega Speedmaster is like a treasure trove for watch enthusiasts. The brand has created a wide range of watches that made a significant contribution to the exploration of space. While we haven't visited the moon for quite some time now, the Speedmaster hasn't lost any of its relevance or appeal. Over the last few years, Omega has done a great job nurturing their legacy in space and introduced us to incredible limited editions highlighting some of the most exciting moments in history. These are Haute Time's favorite Omega Speedmasters from the last couple of years:

The Watches Of The 77th Golden Globes Awards

It was an epic night again in Hollywood, as the 77th edition of the Golden Globes took place. The show was hosted once again by British comedian Ricky Gervais, and proved to be a big night for Quentin Tarantino, as his 'Once Upon a Time....in Hollywood' took home the awards for best musical or comedy, supporting actor and screenplay.

Pure Gold; Four Precious Metal Watches That Go All In!

Even in today's time, with high-tech carbon composites and exotic alloys ruling supreme, there is still that undeniable appeal of 18 karat gold. It can be rather discreet when you opt for white gold, more outgoing in the warm tones of rose gold, or an instant classic when you go for yellow gold. Gold pleases its owner with more than just its visual splendor. It is also the heft of this material that makes you know that you are wearing something special. This is especially true with watches that not only feature a case made of this material but a bracelet as well. The following four watches go all in, as they show off the beauty that you get when you go for only gold;

Happy Birthday! Four Anniversaries In Watchmaking

2019 is a special year for quite a few brands, as it marks for them important events in their history. For some, it was the launch of an iconic model or important movement, while for others it was an event at which one of their watches became legendary. That makes it that these four brands have something to celebrate:

OMEGA Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary With A Star-Filled Event

OMEGA hosted a star-filled tribute at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 and the moon landing. George and Amal Clooney, Chiara Ferragni, Douglas Booth, and an impressive line-up of NASA veterans attended the celebratory event.

Omega Speedmaster: The Golden Anniversary Of The First Watch Worn On The Moon

Fifty years ago the Omega Speedmaster became the very first watch to be worn on the moon when Apollo XI landed, and Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped on the lunar surface. This is the stuff of legends, as it was a defining moment in the history of humankind. To celebrate this major achievement Omega created the BA135.022, the first limited edition of the Speedmaster dedicated to achievement in space exploration. It was a precious watch, crafted from yellow gold, with a yellow gold bracelet, and a distinct burgundy bezel, made from anodised aluminium and powered by caliber 861.

Valentine’s Day: Say It With Ceramic

There are many ways to say 'I love you!' but giving a watch to your loved one is a way that lasts. Particularly for men, it is often one of the few items of jewellery that they wear, so it is a daily reminder of that someone special. But which one to choose? Especially in the last few years ceramic has turned from a trend into a staple in the watch industry. The material was pioneered in the watch industry by Rado and IWC, but now also an intricate part of the DNA of brands like Hublot and Zenith. It is light, scratch resistant and heats up to the same temperature as the skin quite fast. But while the choice for the material might be obvious, the specific model might still be a quest of its own in which these four suggestions might help.
