Making a complicated watch is one thing, but giving it a unique, novel appearance is something entirely different. It means that you master the mechanical challenges needed to create such a watch and control them to such an extent that you can determine the look and position of the complications on the dial. Ulysse Nardin is a brand that loves to play with these possibilities, and for them, it has become part of their DNA. An excellent example of this is the Marine Mega Yacht, an ocean-going watch that uniquely displays its rich heritage.

After the 2018 edition, the Swatch Group decided to leave Baselworld and launched this year a new format in which they introduced the novelties of Blancpain, Breguet, Omega, Harry Winston, Jaquet Droz and Glashütte Original. Under the name 'Time to Move' a carefully curated selection of the worldwide press, which included Haute Time, was invited to Switzerland to discover the new watches, with the exception of Glashütte Original, in the manufactures in which they where created. In an intimate setting, this allowed us to fully go into the details of each particular watch and discuss them with the people responsible for their creation. When I started last year with 'Blue Dials of Baselworld' I did not expect it to become a reoccurring topic. Earlier this year at the SIHH, we already saw enough blue dials to warrant a similar article and this year at Baselworld....well, judge for yourself!

After Part I of Haute Time's Favorite Baselworld Watches, there are still a few new watches that we would like to highlight, as they made strong entries to our wishlists, and perhaps those of yours as well.

Last year during Baselworld, Breguet surprised us with the Marine Équation Marchante 5887, which combined a tourbillon with an equation of time complication. This year it became clear that this highly complicated watch was just at the forefront of a new generation of Marine watches. For Breguet an important collection, historically, as Abraham-Louis Breguet was appointed chronometer maker of the French Royal Navy in 1815, and commercially, as everybody loves a good sports watch!

Baselworld is always a place full of surprizes, some large and some small. One of those big surprises is the Blancpain Villeret Tourbillon Volant Heure Sautante Minute Rétrograde. This watch combines a jumping hour with retrograde minutes and a unique flying tourbillon.

The announcement of the pre-SIHH models always feels like Christmas is coming early! These previews most certainly wet the appetite, and are a sign of great things to come!
