Last Saturday April 23rd, Paris hosted its first Grand Prix race ever with 18 electric-powered cars competing in the 2016 FIA Formula E championship. The Paris Formula E Grand Prix, that followed its course around the Hôtel des Invalides right in the heart of the French capital in the 7th district was cheered on by 18,000 spectators eager to welcome this environmentally friendly race in a city that is becoming more and more “green”. Tickets had sold out almost overnight when they went on sale in mid-February.
“Partner in time” of the e.dams-Renault team, Richard Mille was there to congratulate drivers Sébastien Buemi from Switzerland and Nicolas Prost of France who showed off their talent and proved their mettle in a tough, competitive race, finishing 3rd and 4th respectively just behind Brazilian Lucas Di Grassi and Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne who took the first two places on the podium.
With Richard Mille and FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) President Jean Todt looking on, co-owners of e.dams-Renault Jean-Paul Driot and Alain Prost were visibly delighted with the results. The defending World Champion constructor now leads the Team Standing with 165 points while drivers Sébastien Buemi and Nicolas Prost occupy 2nd and 6th places overall.
The electric singleseaters raced over a 1.93 kilometers circuit with 14 turns and speeds of up to 225 km/hr. Noise levels of 80dB are almost half the 147dB made by the throttle of a Formula 1 car. Conceived in 2012, and still in its infancy two years ago when Richard Mille signed with the e.dams team’s co-owners, no one had anticipated the phenomenal success that Formula E has today, from London to Shanghai, Miami and Moscow, for a total of 11 races in 10 different cities for this 2015 – 2016 year of competition that started in October 2015 and will end in July.
Richard Mille shares with Formula E the spirit of research, whether for environment, energy or performance, in a constant quest to push the limits. Rendez-vous May 21st in Berlin for the next race!
