When top-ranking tennis player Rafael Nadal took home the top prize at Acapulco’s Abierto Mexicano Telcel tournament, he did so in style. The tennis superstar and Richard Mille brand partner was spotted on the court wearing the Swiss manufacture’s new RM 27-01 Tourbillon Rafael Nadal.

Richard Mille offered their congratulations to Nadal following the victory on Sunday, March 3rd, after he defeated David Ferrer 6-0, 6-2 in 1 hour and 6 minutes. The victory is especially poignant for Nadal, who recently fought back after being waylaid by a knee injury for seven months. During the tournament, Nadal did not concede a single set, and gave up his serve only once. With this win Nadal, who is considered one of the best players of all time, adds a 52nd title to his name, a mere fortnight after another victory in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Luxury watchmakers Richard Mille have worked with Nadal since 2010, even creating the world’s lightest tourbillon for him to wear during competitions. The limited edition RM 27-01, which weighs just 19 grams (strap included), was previewed for the first time in Geneva during this year’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. An incredible feat of engineering and technology, this timepiece has a movement held in total suspension at its heart, and a baseplate attached to the case by four braided steel cables just 0.35 mm in diameter. As a result, this watch can withstand accelerations of over 5,000 G. Only fifty RM 27-01 watches will be produced, available in carbon nanotubes and supplied on a Velcro® strap.
