This time last week, we had the privilege of sitting down with Rafael Nadal, who we are pleased to confirm will grace the cover of our next magazine. The world No 3, speaking at a promotional Golf tournament organized by Richard Mille in the South of France, revealed how the luxury watch brand convinced him to wear a watch on the court. Something he “never thought” he would do.

“It’s really an honor to be part of the Richard Mille family,” said Nadal. “For me, Richard is like a friend.”

The two men share many similarities, having risen almost instantly to the very top of their respective fields, and sustaining that level ever since.

“What he did in his world, of high end watches, is really unbelievable and I admire him a lot,” said Nadal.

During the photoshoot, Nadal wore his personal RM 27-01 with was modified with a red Velcro® strap. Although he denies wearing it as a good luck charm, he admits the two has shared some great moments together, including at this year’s French Open.

The former world number one admitted 2014 had been a complicated year, but appeared relaxed ahead of his comeback, even fielding questions from our readers via social media.

Asked how the watch feels on the wrist during match play, Nadal said: “Seriously, I forget about it, it’s like I’m wearing nothing. When I play tennis, I forget that I am wearing a watch.”

A few days after we saw him, Nadal would rediscover his winning ways, again with his RM 27-0, easing to a 6-2 6-2 win over Simone Bolelli in the first round of the Swiss Indoors in Basel.
