Breguet Type XXI 3813 Only Watch 2015

After January (SIHH) and March (Baselworld), July is a month many watch collectors jotted down on their calendars at the beginning of the year. Why? Because forty of the world’s major watch manufacturers would then be unveiling their entry – a unique timepiece – for the Only Watch 2015 charity auction.

After Chopard it was Breguet’s turn to unveil its one-of-a-kind watch. And the Swiss brand chose to submit a platinum Type XXI chronograph for this year’s auction, held in November.

Made from 1954 until the 1970s the first Type XX were made for members of the French air force and featured a special flyback function enabling an instant zero-resetting and restarting of the chronograph counter in one smooth move.

To the delight of watch collecting aviators, the Swiss brand brought the design back a few years ago with the Type XXI 3813. Powered once again by caliber 584Q/1 the watch comes fitted with an aged calfskin leather strap.

While several brands are yet to release their entry for Only Watch 2015, Breguet’s unique Type XXI 3813 is the first vintage-inspired pilot watch in this year’s line-up.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Monaco Association Against Muscular Dystrophy to help fund research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic neuromuscular disease affecting 250,000 children, adolescents and young adults worldwide.

Only Watch 2015 will be held on November 7 in Geneva, under the auspices of the Phillips auction house.
