In one year this month, Omega will once again take up timekeeping responsibilities at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, and the luxury watchmakers are celebrating the excitement with the unveiling of a special edition of its iconic Seamaster Planet Ocean timepiece. The Seamaster Planet Ocean “Sochi 2014” watches will be produced in versions for both men and women, with precisely 2,014 pieces of each version to be produced.

Men’s Seamaster Sochi 2014

The men’s model begins with a 45.5mm-diameter case of brushed and polished stainless steel, with bracelet in matching material. The caseback will be embossed with the “Sochi 2014” Olympic logo, as well an engraving of the limited-edition number and “Si14”. On the matt black dial, the minutes 1 through 5 are lacquered in blue, while the minutes 6 through 10 are lacquered in red, representing the colors of the Russian Federation flag. Central hour, minute, seconds hands, and a date window at 3 o’clock complete the dial. At the heart of this timepiece is an Omega Co-Axial calibre 8500 movement bearing the brand’s exclusive Si14 silicon balance spring.

Women’s Seamaster Sochi 2014

The women’s model of the Seamaster Planet Ocean “Sochi 2014” features many of the same design highlights as the men’s model, but with a few notably feminine differences. This timepiece begins with a smaller 37.5 mm-diameter case of brushed and polished stainless steel case. At its heart is an Omega Co-Axial calibre 8520 movement, part of the Manufacture’s family of exclusive Co-Axial movements. Its Si14 silicon balance spring is anti-magnetic and particularly resistant to shock and external disturbance. A white leather bracelet completes the look.

It will be a busy year to come for the Bienne, Switzerland-based Manufacture; in advance of BaselWorld 2013, Omega also recently unveiled the Constellation Sedna. This unique timepiece will be the first to feature Omega’s brand-new alloy, named Sedna™ gold. Developed in-house at the Omega Manufacture, this alloy blends gold, copper and palladium to create a unique rose color. Only 1,952 pieces (a limited edition representing the year Omega debuted the Constellation watch family) of this timepiece will be produced.
