Luxury watchmaker MB&F has unveiled a limited edition new version of its Horological Machine No.5. The HM5 ‘RT’ is a red gold version of the original Horological Machine No.5, which was done in zirconium.

The HM5 ‘RT’, which will be limited to just 66 pieces, retains all the key features of the Horological Machine No.5: a hand-finished automatic movement with bi-directional jumping hours; a vertical time display reflected and magnified by a sapphire crystal optical prism; and ‘light convector’ flaps which charge the super-luminova hour and minute discs.

However, according to MB&F, there were certain adjustments made to compensate for the new material. Since gold is heavier, the manufacture had to modify the HM5 ‘RT’s inner protective compartment from stainless steel to titanium to compensate for the added weight of the case. Grade 5 titanium flanks the lower sides and base of the case, and the deep-brush finish brings out its contrast with the 5N red gold. There is also an electric-blue trim around the time display. The result is a highly wearable 51.5mm x 49mm timepiece.
