Monaco World Stars Football Match

Swiss horloger Hublot tracked the time as sports celebrities played the annual World Stars Football Match in Monaco.

On May 23, two days prior to the launch of the 75th Monaco Grand Prix, the event marked its 25th anniversary. Held at Louis II stadium, the friendly match gathered together around thirty of the biggest names in Formula 1 racing, skiing, football and cycling. The play garnered funds for a variety of charitable associations working with underprivileged children.

Decked in specially designed Hublot kits, the two teams faced each other under the guidance of coach Claudio Ranieri. H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco headed the AS Star Team For Children, which consisted of motorcycle racer Loris Capirossi, cyclist Claudio Chiapucci as well as famed footballers such as William Gallas, Marcos Simone, Ludovic Giuly and Francesco Toldo. Their opponents were some of the fastest F1 drivers such as Mika Hakkinen, Mick Schumacher and Daniel Rocciardo, who united under Felipe Massa as “Nazionale Piloti” (National Pilots).

With a decisive goal, H.S.H. Prince Albert II brought the score to 2-1, leading his teammates to victory. As the sportsmen battled on the pitch, the officials’ panel and the advertising boards boasted the black and white colors of Hublot. The official timekeeper for the match, the watchmaker also took to the streets of the city, where a hundred kakemonos depicted a Hublot Big Bang Ferrari timepiece alongside race cars of partner Ferrari.

H.S.H. Albert II formed the Star Team for Children back in 1993. Since then, it has participated in a slew of sporting events – form football to car racing to golf – that have benefited kids. Active in promoting sports and philanthropy, Hublot has not only supported the team but also kept time at a string of high-profile football forums, including the European Football Championship.
