This weekend luxury watchmaker Hublot hosted the Ascona Polo Cup in Lido, on the shores of Lake Maggiorin in Switzerland. More than 450 guests joined the Swiss manufacture, which is the Official Timekeeper of the Cup, for a weekend of revelry and competition.

The tournament began with a lakeside beach party on Friday night. Guests donned casual dress and bare feet in the sand and danced late into the night after a great Argentinian barbecue. On Saturday night guests celebrated under large tents decorated for an Indian themed evening, with fire jugglers and a festive party. Finally, on Sunday afternoon, the matches got underway, with Team Styger & Partner Wealth Management taking home the title. The winners were also given a Chukker Bang, a unique Big Bang model specially developed by Hublot for polo.

Ricardo Guadalupe, the CEO of Hublot, told us, “Sport has always been a part of life at Hublot. And when the sport in question speaks of elegance and fair play, then the choice for us is simple. Ascona represents quality, beauty, privilege, security, holidays, luxury, the Swiss way of life. We are delighted and very proud to now be associated with this fine tournament, organised in such an exemplary way by a dynamic Organising Committee to which we would like to extend our sincerest thanks and congratulations.”

The polo-inspired Chukker Bang timepiece is a 44mm-diameter Big Bang equipped with a titanium grille (a first for Hublot) to protect the sapphire crystal. (The grille can be removed from the bezel if desired.) The HUB1141 Polo Flyback automatic chronograph movement at the heart of the Chukker Bang features a 7 min 30 counter, the length of one period of play, known as a “chukka”, in a polo match.
