This week, we take a peak inside Marcus Watches, a one of a kind store on London’s fashionable Bond Street, which does things a little differently with special commissions from their favorite brands. The store’s Retail Digital Manager, Alex Rose, picks a couple of his favorites.

Greubel Forsey GMT Black Piece for Marcus Watches

The Watch: The GF05 GMT, released originally in both white and red gold, features a 24 second fast tourbillon mounted at 25 degrees, displaying hours, minutes and sub seconds, plus a 72 hour power reserve indicator. For Marcus Watches, Greubel Forsey created a jet black piece using a DLC toughened coating over a platinum case.

The Verdict: “The GMT is a beautiful watch as well as a piece of horological art. The black version is no exception. It’s for a collector who is an individualist and, like us, likes to stand out from the crowd but can also have the knowledge they own a watch no one else in the world will have.”

Audemars Piguet’s 42MM Offshore 2014 New look Safari

The Watch: Audemars Piguet revisited the Offshore range in 2014, producing a new 42mm Offshore Safari. Instead of a radical redesign, Audemars Piguet made subtle changes; re-sizing the crown, push pieces, and guards, and replacing the black rubber used for the push pieces and crown with black ceramic meaning no wear and tear. The numerals are more pronounced, and the sub-dials are now framed with polished raised borders, and the iconic Mega Tappiserie dial now has a sharper cut.

The Verdict: “Overall the new collection feels a little more refined and modern. I still love the older versions which we also carry. For me though, the new look Safari is my favorite from the Offshore Chronograph range. It still has the same feel as the original but with deeper shades, as the dial is now a darker ivory with the sub-dials and inner flange in a complimentary brown with matching brown horn back leather strap. The new range no longer features the Audemars Piguet folding clasp but now have a more sturdy, stainless steel pin and buckle.”
