Swatch Group Chair Talks Growing Swiss Watch Industry

Nayla Hayek, the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Swatch Group, recently addressed the 2013 General Assembly of the group’s hareholders in Biel, Switzerland. During the address, Hayek spoke about the rebound of the Swiss watch industry. Last year, the Swatch Group posted gross sales of CHF$8,143,000,000 (approximately US$8,538,326,364), a billion francs more than the previous year. But when the Swatch Group was born in 1983, the Swiss watch industry was in serious decline. “In the early 1980s, the Swiss watchmaking industry was practically bankrupt,” Hayek told the General Assembly. “In this situation, something had to be done. According to the manufacture this timepiece is based on the Ref. 5002 Sky Moon Tourbillon, Patek Philippe’s most complicated wristwatch, with 12 complications on two dials. Ulysse Nardin Unveils Pride of Baltimore Classico Cloisonné

Luxury watchmaker Ulysse Nardin has added to its Classico Cloisonné collection with the new Pride of Baltimore. This timepiece was inspired the historic Baltimore Clippers, who broke the British naval blockade of the US coastline during the War of 1812. Ulysse Nardin is memorializing one of the most famous Baltimore Clipper sailors, Captain Thomas Boyle of the Chasseur, whose ship was nicknamed the “Pride of Baltimore”. This famous ship is pictured through enameling art on the 40mm-diameter dial of this mechanical timepiece.
